Kisah Korban Gempa Sulawesi Tengah yang Diselamatkan Adzan Maghrib

Prediabetes is a real disorder of personal metabolism and a true disease. Prediabetes exists as a condition when one's fasting blood glucose level ranges 100-125 mg/dl or when one's random hemoglobin A1c value ranges 5.8-6.4. Normal fasting glucose is less than 99 mg/dl but greater than 70 mg/dl, and normal hemoglobin A1c values are 5.7 or less. Prediabetes is recognized and so-named because nearly 50% of affected individuals will progress to overt Diabetes Mellitus over 5 years. And, in repeated public health surveys and studies, prediabetes is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, and progressive kidney function impairment first manifest by protein leakage into the urine. Let's summarize -- Glucose is a simple sugar that our body uses for energy. Table sugar is called sucrose, and sucrose is broken down to glucose in our intestine after eating. Glucose is then absorbed into our blood and travels to all of our tissues, where it is transported into tissue cells by the action of insulin. Our bodies are set so that glucose in our blood stream is transported into tissue cells within a prompt time frame of less than 2 hours. If this process is not working normally, then glucose will circulate at higher than normal blood values and this leads to biological trouble. A normal blood glucose level after no food for 8 hours (fasting glucose) is between 70 and 99 mg/dL. A normal blood glucose level two hours after eating is less than 140 mg/dL. The glucose surge into our blood stream triggers insulin release from our pancreas. The quantity of insulin released is set by quantity of glucose sensed by our pancreas and sensitivity of insulin action in our organs. Insulin drives glucose uptake into our tissue cells. Diabetes mellitus exists when: Two consecutive fasting blood glucose tests are equal to or greater than 126 mg/dl -- or, A random non-fasting blood glucose value is greater than 200 mg/dl -- or, A hemoglobin A1c test is equal to or greater than 6.5 percent. Prediabetes exists as a real medical condition that requires specific interventions when -- A fasting blood glucose value is between 100-125 mg/dL, or, A hemoglobin A1c value is between 5.7 - 6.4 percent, or, A random blood glucose value is between 140 mg/dL and 199 mg/d. Prediabetes is tissue glucose intolerance and is an impairment of glucose utilization, and it truly does lead to health changes and organ alterations that doctors call complications. It leads to overt diabetes mellitus in over 50% of persons. Thus, prediabetes is designated as a true medical condition that requires actions - adjustment in diet, adjustment in activity, weight loss, and often medication. No longer can "glucose intolerance" be simply mentioned and not registered as an authentic medical problem. If you have been told that you have glucose intolerance, realize that you have a disease of your glucose metabolism that causes trouble to you. Ask for more information. Your doctor should provide a care plan to you and track your condition as any other disease or medical problem is tracked. More about this shall be explained in subsequent articles.
